Chapter 7 - The Voice Of Reason


I do find Ashley lying on the leatherback turtle skin sofa in Mallet's office. In her fins is a very confused yet cute and cuddly catfish. "Baby, where's Sasha?" "Tell me you've got Sasha!" "Ashley!" "Where's my family?" "Ashley!" "Ashley!" I yelled. "Sit down Sharky" Melina says sternly. "Sit down and calm down ok hun." She was always sweet like that. She called everyone hun or sweetie and always says her pleases and thank yous. Ashley lets go of Sampson and slowly sits up as I slowly sit down in the leatherback lazy boy, just across from her. Just then Mallet enters the room and hands me my drink I must have left in the livingroom. He's on his phone talking with police. He looks sick to his stomach. "I'll be right back Sharky." He says as he leaves the room.

I look to Ashley one more time, she is about to speak but she is unsure of herself. Her eyes are full of fear and tears. Her voice is low and shaky as she reaches out and holds my fins and begins to talk. "All we know right now is that your mom and dad were killed in the crossfire of some gang war, or mob fight. Some how it ended on your street last night at nine o'clock while your parents were out walking their nightly laps around the neighborhood." I tried to interrupt with a question but was quickly hushed by Melina. Ashley clinched my fins tighter and continued to talk.

"The children's Seagull aid took your brothers and Sasha before I even knew what happened Sharky." "What!" "Where were you Ashley?" I interrupted. "I was helping Melina do her close at the pet store baby, I do it every Friday, Sharky you know that!" She screeches at me as the tears fall even harder. "I'm not sure where they took them, they wouldn't tell me anything!" She says with panic. "The police wouldn't even let me on to the street Sharky!" "Lil Tony Anchovy was the one who filled me in." "He said they were asking where you were baby, He thinks they wanted to take you away with the others." Then she said she didn't know what to do, so she came to Melina's and tried to reach me for hours.

Before I could comfort her Mallet comes back into the room. He slams his phone down on his desk and says. "They won't tell me jack Sharky. They just want to know where you are, and how they can find you." My reply is simple. "Oh, their gonna find me whether they want to or not!" "I'm getting a shower and shaving baby, you can join me if you want." "And I'm going to have to borrow one of your outfits, ok Mallet?" He tried to say something but I stopped him. "I'm getting a shower guys and that's that, no more talking until I'm out, I just need a minute to think and cleanse my mind." As I got a towel from the linen closet Ashley rubs my back as she passes me and says. "Get me one too baby." Then she disappears into the bathroom. She starts the shower and I grab two towels and head into the bathroom my self. It all comes out in the wash, I thought as I shut the bathroom door behind me and striped off my clothes.
